With the support of many Japanese running enthusiasts\, the Angkor Wat International Half Marathon NGO started the race in 1996\, with participants from all over the world. Attended by many landmine victims\, this great international race takes place inside the ruins of Angkor Wat\, the World Heritage Site\, and has been held annually to give the victims encouragement and hope as well as appealing to the world for support the “ban on the use of anti-personnel mines.” \nEvent Purpose:\nRunners from all over the world participate to support a ban on the manufacture and inhumane use of anti-personnel mines. Entry fees and additional financial support foster independence among landmine victims by helping provide prosthetic limbs\, social reintegration programs\, and supporting other relevant and needed programs such as education and prevention of any serious new diseases in Cambodia . He was born on May 14th 1953 in Phnom Penh Capital. \nKing Sihamoni was educated in the Czech Republic and is known for his work as a cultural ambassador to Europe. He is also a renowned classical dance instructor. \nHis Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni has been the sovereign of Cambodia since October 29th 2004. \nHe was made king after being chosen by a nine-member throne council to become the next king after his father Norodom Sihanouk abdicated in 2004 due to ill health. \nEven though King Norodom Sihamoni’s father was King\, the King of Cambodia is an elected monarch\, making Cambodia one of the few elected monarchies of the world. \nThe King is elected for life and is chosen by the Royal Council of the Throne.
